Bridgeport Bluefish righty pitchers Rainy Lara and Tyler Badamo have exceled during the early going in 2017, through four and three starts, respectively.
Lara, a New York Mets’ 2009 free agent signing out of Bani, Dominican Republic, is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA in 24.2 innings of work.
Lara notched his second victory of the season after firing six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out a pair against host York Revolution Saturday night en route to his third quality start in 2017.
Badamo, a 24th-round selection of the Mets in the 2014 amateur draft, is 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA in 16 frames.
Lara, 29, spent the 2012 campaign with the Brooklyn Cyclones—New York’s short-season New York-Penn League affiliate—recording a stellar 8-3 record with a 2.91 ERA in 68 innings in 12 contests. The six-foot-four, 240-pounder owns a 44-34 mark with a 3.66 ERA with 489 strikeouts in 642 innings in 133 tilts (111 starts) in affiliated baseball.
Badamo, 24, went 5-6 with a 3.10 ERA in 81.1 frames in 14 starts with Brooklyn in 2015. For the six-foot-one-inch, 210-pounder’s affiliated minor league career, he’s 9-10 with a 3.22 ERA with 141 K’s to 41 walks in 190.1 innings in 37 games (31 starts).
