Indie Brooklyn Singer/Songwriter Elizabeth Sage Sets the Well on Fire

It was a night to remember for fans of indie pop singer Elizabeth Sage, who is a cross between Lisa Lobe and Joan Osborne.

The Brooklyn songstress, backed by a full band, complete with violinist Jeremy Aaron, torched the stage with her sultry, sweet style and poignant lyrics Tuesday night at the Well in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Sage began her nine-song sizzling set with California Sun, a smooth, ear-pleasing ditty she wrote about a road trip to Los Angeles with her younger sister, Yael.

Among Sage’s best songs included Run Back to Me, as the tune yanks on listeners’ heart strings while she strummed her guitar and sang about missing someone so bad that “you don’t want them to walk back to you but run.”

Sage’s lone cover was Ed Sheeran’s Perfect, sharing singing duties with Benjamin Eskenazi, who helped knock it out of the park with his soulful voice.

 

Staying in line with her heart-penetrating tunes, Disease of Loneliness is a soul-gripping song about bleeding the bad elements of an old relationship into a new one without giving it a new slate from which to grow.

Sage, a personal trainer when she’s not rocking out, closed out her show with Hand in Hand, an upbeat track urging people to unite and live in harmony.

Sage’s performance was arguably one of her best to date and is headed for a red-hot future when the rock stars align.
