Former Brooklyn Cyclone, NY Met Rainy Lara Lands with the New Britain Bees

The New Britain Bees of the independent Atlantic League announced today that it has signed ex-Brooklyn Cyclone and former News Mets minor league pitcher Rainy Lara.

Lara joins the Bees for his ninth season of professional baseball and second in the Atlantic League.

The right-handed hurler spent 2012 with the Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York-Penn League (NYPL), posting an impressive 8-3 record with 2.91 ERA in 68 innings in 12 games

Last year, Lara pitched with the Bridgeport Bluefish and made the Atlantic League All-Star team after earning nine victories with a 4.31 ERA and 97 strikeouts over 142.0 innings in 25 starts.

The Dominican Republic native spilt time between Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern League (EL) in 2016.  He combined to register an 8-11 record with a 5.16 ERA in 113.1 frames.

Lara, a non-drafted free agent by the New York Mets in 2010, spent a total of seven campaigns in their system, reaching as high as Las Vegas in 2015 and ’16.  

In 158 career minor league appearances (136 starts), Lara sports a 53-45 record with a 3.78 ERA and 586 strikeouts in 784.0 innings.
