Former Brooklyn Cyclones Propel Columbia Fireflies to 4-2 Opening Night Win

Fireflies second baseman Blake Tiberi goes 3-4 with a home run, RBI, double and two runs scored in Columbia 4-2 win over GreenJackets.

Four former Brooklyn Cyclones accounted for all four runs in the Columbia Fireflies’ 4-1 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets Thursday on home opening night at Spirit Communications Park in a South Atlantic League (SAL) game.

Columbia (1-0) second baseman Blake Tiberi led the charge with a 3-4 night with a home run, RBI, double and two runs scored. First baseman Jeremy Vasquez went 1-3 with a RBI double, while centerfielder Quinn Brodey enjoyed a 1-3 tilt with a RBI, and shortstop Edgardo Fermin laced a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the fourth.

Relievers Conner O’Neil, Stephen Villines and Trey Cobb, all ex-Cyclones, pitched well enough (a combined five innings—2R, 1ER) to keep the GreenJackets (0-1) at bay. O’Neil (1-0), Cobb and Villines picked up the win, save, and hold, respectfully, in the win.

Fireflies starter Tony Dibrell tossed four frames of scoreless baseball, with only one hit, before turning the game over to the bullpen.
