Former Brooklyn Cyclones Pace Fireflies to 7-1 Win of Greenville

It was ex-Brooklyn Cyclones night for the Columbia Fireflies on Monday, as six former Coney Island residents figured predominantly in the Columbia Fireflies’ 7-1 win over the 3-8 Greenville Drive (Boston) at Fluor Field in a South Atlantic League game.

Shortstop Edgardo Fermin went 3-4 with a walk and double while designated hitter Walter Rasquin smacked a two-run homer. Firefly outfielders Jay Jabs, Quinn Brodey and Matt Winaker all drove in a run apiece in the victory.

Starting pitcher Chris Viall (1-0, 2.00 ERA) fired five effective innings, allowing just one run while whiffing a career-best 11 batters. The former Brooklyn Cyclone and 2016 sixth round MLB draft selection of the New York Mets picked up his first win of his professional career.

Note: Second baseman Blake Tiberi and first baseman Jeremy Vasquez, both ex-Cyclones, have reached base safely in all ten Columbia (7-4) games that they’ve played this season. Tiberi drew a walk and Vasquez had two free passes.
