
The start to Sekou Sylla’s college basketball career at Division II College of St. Rose has been downright impressive.
The former South Shore Vikings (Brooklyn) forward has averaged 15.6 points (team-best) per game and 8.8 rebounds ppg, to go along with a total of eight steals and three blocks in nine tilts.
Additionally, Sylla’s stellar play has garnered him two Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week awards.
The freshman’s first honor came for the period ending Sunday, November 25, when he averaged 14.5 points and 11.0 rebounds while shooting 55.0 percent (11-for-20) from the floor throughout a 1-1 week for the Golden Knights.
He recorded a season-high 19 points, behind 8-for-12 shooting, and pulled down seven rebounds in a 90-62 victory versus LIU Post. Sylla previously recorded 10 points and 15 rebounds throughout a 73-69 setback at Pace University.
Sylla’s next accolade came the following week, when he averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals throughout a 1-1 week for the Golden Knights. He registered a season-high 24 points, on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor, to go with 11 rebounds in a win versus league rival New Haven. He also scored 16 points and grabbed 10 boards during a conference defeat to visiting Le Moyne.
