A Lady Cougar gets ready to shoot free throw in 67-25 win over Pequannock in first round of 2019 MCT Hoops.

Shannon Donohoe came through with a big-time performance against No. 16 Pequannock High School, as the junior drained a game-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in top-seeded Chatham’s 67-25 basketball win in the first round of the 2019 Girls Morris County Tournament Saturday afternoon at home.

The reigning champions Lady Cougars raced out to a 21-9 first half lead.

The offense didn’t stop there, however. After a Pequannock (6-11) basket, the six-foot-one-inch Donohoe’s hoop ignited a 16-9 run that swelled its advantage to 37-18 with 2:00 to go in the third quarter.

Chatham’s tough pressing defense, a running theme in the game, didn’t permit the Lady Golden Panthers to score any points, while the Lady Cougars tacked on six more to close out the period ahead, 44-18.

Chatham (13-4) didn’t let up in the fourth quarter, as another scoring blitz put the contest out of reach at 61-22 with 2:50 remaining in the tilt.

Senior Michaela Ford and junior Maddie Hartnett poured in 10 points apiece, while Lea Casano-Boris contributed eight for the Lady Cougars.

Sophomore Brooke Struble led Pequannock with eight points.

Chatham will face No. 8 Montville Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the Morris County Tournament quarterfinals at Morris Knolls High School. The Lady Cougars came out victorious at home, 46-23, over the Lady Mustangs on Jan. 4 and lost, 38-35, at Montville on Jan. 31.
