A familiar face to Brooklyn Cyclones fans has joined the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB).
The Ducks announced on Tuesday that Rick Tomlin has assumed the role of pitching coach, replacing ex-Met Ed Lynch, who has resigned from the club in order to spend more time with his family, according to the team.
Tomlin coached under current Long Island manager Wally Backman in 2010 with the Cyclones, the Mets’ short-season Single-A affiliate of the New York-Penn League (NYPL), helping the club reach the league finals.
Tomlin brings over 20 years of experience as a coach in professional baseball to the Ducks. In addition to the Mets, he has previous experience as a pitching coach in the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees and Washington Nationals organizations.
Also, the 66-year-old has served as the minor league pitching coordinator for the Yankees, Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers.
“I really appreciated Ed being part of our staff here,” Backman said on LIDucks.com. “At the same time, I am excited to add Rick as pitching coach for the remainder of the 2019 season, and I’m confident he’s going to help us accomplish our goal of bringing the Atlantic League championship back to Long Island.”
The Ducks host the New Britain Bees on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
