SI FerryHawks Name Ex-Met, Former LI Duck Nelson Figueroa as Pitching Coach

The Staten Island FerryHawks today announce the acquisition of former New York Met and ex-Long Island Ducks pitcher Nelson Figueroa to serve as their first pitching coach, according to a Tweet.

Nelson Figueroa will serve as SI FerryHawks pitching coach.

Figueroa posted a 20-35 record with a 4.55 E.R.A. with a save in 499 innings of work in 145 games with eight teams across nine seasons of major league baseball.

He pitched for New York during the 2008-09 seasons, putting up a 6-11 mark in 115 2/3 innings in 32 contests. He also pitched overseas for two campaigns as well as for the Atlantic League’s Ducks, per the FerryHawks.

Born in Brooklyn and played high school ball for Lincoln on Brooklyn’s Coney Island, the Mets drafted the 47-year-old in the 30th round of the 1995 MLB Amateur Draft out of Brandeis University (Mass).
