Mets Pick Up 14-Million Dollar Option on Starter Carlos Carrasco

General manager Billy Eppler today has announced that the New York Mets will pick up veteran right-handed starter Carlos Carrasco’s $14 million option for 2023, per Mets.com.

Carrasco, who came over in the deal that also brought shortstop Fransico Lindor to Flushing two years ago, posted a 3.97 ERA (3.53 FIP) and 1.32 WHIP across 152 innings over 29 starts last season. But injuries marred Carrasco first season in New York in 2021.

The Mets will have three starters hit free agency this offseason–Jacob deGrom, Chris Bassitt and Taijuan Walker–so bringing back Carrasco, nicknamed “Cookie,” at a reasonable price was a no-brainer.

This move comes on the heels of signing reliver Edwin Diaz to a five-year, $102 million contract that is the richest in history for a reliever on Wednesday.
