The New York Mets today have announced via Twitter that18-year-old shortstop Marco Vargas and 19-year-old catcher Ronald Hernandez have been promoted to the St. Lucie Mets (Single-A) from the Florida Complex League (FCL) Mets (rookie level).
The Mets acquired Vargas and Hernandez in a deal with the Maimi Marlins for closer David Robertson near the trade deadline.
Vargas batted .234 with five RBI and three doubles with a .368 on base percentage in 47 at-bats in 15 games with the FCL Mets. Hernandez hit .286 with one home run and 11 RBI to go along with a .509 (OBP) in 34 at-bats in 14 contests with the FCL Mets.
