Binghamton’s Augustin Ruiz Picks Up Eastern League’s Player of the Week Award

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Mets, announced Monday that the Eastern League has named outfielder Agustin Ruiz as its Player of the Week for the week of August 21-27.

Ruiz, 27, enjoyed an impressive week, slashing 500/.636/1.125 with an amazing OPS of 1.761 during Binghamton’s five-game road series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Toronto Blue Jays’ Double-A affiliate.

Ruiz, who the Mets picked up in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft, smacked three home runs and drove in eight runs, scored seven runs and collected three straight multi-hit games.

Additionally, the Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, native spurred a thrilling 7-6 Rumble Ponies’ comeback win over New Hampshire after recording an RBI double in the seventh inning and a solo home run in the ninth in a game last Thursday.

Right-handed pitcher Tyler Stuart earned the Eastern Leagues’ pitcher of the week for Binghamton.
