The New York Mets today announced that promising minor league catcher Kevin Parada has been promoted from High-A Brooklyn Cyclones to Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
Parada, the Mets’ fifth-ranked prospect, was hitting .265 with 11 home runs, 42 RBI, 21 doubles and four triples while slashing .340/.487/.787 in 340 at-bats in 87 games with the Cyclones this season.
Parada, 22, was New York’s first round pick (11th overall) in the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft out of Georgia Tech. The question for the 5-foot-11. 197-pound Parada, as far the Mets is concerned, has been his defense, according to MLB sources.
However, Parada’s behind-the-plate abilities have been steadily improving this year, per reports. To that end, he profiles as an offensive-minded, everyday catcher, that New York seems to be willing to live with his work-in-progress defensive status right now.
