The Washington Wild Things of the independent Frontier League have signed outfielder Briley Knight, the team recently announced in a press release.
This is the Australian-born player’s first United States professional baseball contract, according to the release.
The Australian U23 team member is currently hitting. 289 in 38 at-bats with the Adelaide Giants of the Australian Baseball League at the time of the press release. Additionally, Knight played four campaigns in the summer-collegiate West Coast League for the Corvallis Knights in his hometown of Corvallis, Oregon.
In college baseball, Knight slashed .322/.409/.487 with 21 doubles, four longballs, 43 RBI, 32 runs, 24 walks and six hit by pitches in 50 contests with the University of Portland Pilots in 2023, in which the team made its first-ever West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship appearance.
Before that, the 24-year-old batted .252 with a team-best eight home runs, seven doubles and two triples with an .881 OPS, .511 slugging and .370 on-base percentages with the Pilots in the 2022 season. Knight also suited up for
