The Sussex County Miners have signed infielder Cory Acton for the upcoming independent Frontier League 2024 season, yesterday the team announced via X.
Acton has spent the winter playing for the Canberra Cavalry of the Australian Baseball League (ABL), hitting a league-best .333 average with a .422 on-base percentage and a .468 slugging percentage.
A ninth-round pick of the Atlanta Braves in the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft, Acton had a .235 batting average, .365 OBP, and .300 SLG in two minor league campaigns with the organization. He reached as high as the Advanced-A Rome Braves in 2023.
In college, Action suited up for the Division 1 University of Florida Gators for three years and completed his final year of eligibility for the University of Georgia Bulldogs. While in college, the 24-year-old slashed .250(BA)/.381(OBP)/.365(SLG).
The Miners kick off the 2024 campaign on May 10th at 7:05 p.m. against the Trois-Riveires Aigles at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, New Jersey.
