The St. Lucie Mets’ (Single-A) bats were alive with thunder last night, pounding out 12 hits and 14 runs in their 14-1 lopsided victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads (4-4) at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Jonah Tong, who has not allowed an earned run in 8.1 innings of work with 21 strikeouts in two starts, tossed four scoreless frames with 10 K’s.
Offensively, centerfielder Nick Morabito, New York’s 26th rated prospect on MLB Pipeline, led the way for St. Lucie (3-5), reaching base four times with two hits, one of which was a triple, two walks, along with scoring two runs and three RBI. Third baseman Jesus Baez stroked 2-5 with a walk, three RBI and three runs scored, while right fielder Yohairo Cuevas went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Jupiter first baseman Brock Vradenburg, the Miami Marlins’ third round pick in last year’s MLB Draft, went 2-4.
The Mets return to action today at noon for a road tilt against the Hammerheads.
