Japanese Prospect Rintaro Sasaki to Make U.S. Debut for Trenton Thunder

The Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League have signed Japanese prospect and Stanford signee Rintaro Sasaki, per the Thunder’s X feed.

Sasaki, the Japanese career high school home run leader with 140, will make his U.S. baseball debut Tuesday night on the road against the Frederick Keys.

Japanese baseball scouts projected Sasaki to be selected first overall in the Nippon Professional Baseball league (NPB) draft, but he opted to ink with Stanford instead.

Sasaki’s numbers and talents are undeniable. He slashed 413/.514/.808 and walked twice as much as he struck out, displaying an expectional eye and patient approach at the plate.

The 6-foot, 250-pound power hitting first baseman will make his home debut Fridsy night versus the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
