Brooklyn’s Deron Rippey, Jr.: Rising High School Basketball Star Earns West Virginia Hoops


Deron Rippey, Jr., a rising junior point guard at Blair Academy (N.J.), keeps the Division I offers rolling in, as the West Virginia Mountaineers Men’s basketball program have thrown their hats into the recruiting ring, today he announced on X.

Additionally, Rippey, a four-star high school player, holds offers from Wake Forest, Syracuse, Binghamton, LIU, Fordham, Hofstra, St. John’s, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Villanova, George Washington and Illinois, according to VerbalCommits.com.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Brooklyn native, who also plays for New Heights Lighting NYC, dropped in 103 points, grabbed 31 rebounds, dished out 33 assists and made 18 steals in nine games played this past season.

Rippey Jr. comes a fine basketball pedigree, as his dad, Deron Sr., suited up at East Carolina University, where he averaged 6.8 points, 2.9 boards and 2.2 helpers per contests with a field goal percentage of 48%.

The Mountaineers posted a 9-23 overall record and went 4-14 in Big 12 Conference action in the 2023-24 campaign.
