Day two of the Second Annual International Showcase proved to be quite successful for the Team Lightning Melious Gold 17U squad, as it captured two victories on the day at St. Thersea on Staten Island.

Emma Sollenne drained a team-leading 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and made two steals.
Kyley Gary-Grayson, a West Orange High School (N.J.) rising senior guard, followed with 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Stella Ziogas (New Rochelle High School) dropped in 13 points, handed out 10 assists, collected five boards and made seven steals.
“Emma got us started early and Kyley and Stella closed it out,” Team Lightning head coach Dan Melious said. “Jelly Quadrino, Skye Presley and Alex Laguna did a great job on defense.”
Team Lightning Melious took care of Team Miller, 73-46, in its second game of the day.
Ziogas led the charge for the Lightning Gold squad with19 points, eight assists, eight steals, five rebounds and two blocks. Gary-Grayson contributed 15 points, 10 boards and five assists.
Rising senior Sarah Loughry of North Catholic High School (Pa.) added 11 points, 14 rebounds, four helpers and took four impressive charges.
A true leader on and off the hardwood, Ziogas has taken it upon herself to take charge on the court while helping the new members on the team feel accepted, Melious said.
“Stella really had it going this tourney,” Melious said. “She is the leader of the team. When she is out there engaged, she’s a special player. Stella made sure the new girls felt at home.”
Melious said that Loughry has been the team’s workhorse, doing the extra things that has helped the Lightning win games.
“Sarah is setting the tone out there defensively; dives for balls, takes charges and is really strong. Big upside for her,” he noted.”
Team Lightning Melious NE2K went 4-0 in the showcase.
Coach Melious said it was a great performance all weekend long.
