The New York Red Bulls quickly fell behind two nil to the LA Galaxy in the first 13 minutes in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup Finals.
But the Red Bulls found the back of the net on a Sean Nealis’ goal, assisted by defender Noah Eile, before the first half ended, slicing the deficit to 2-1.
However, the Galaxy held them scoreless the rest of the way to secure the MLS Championship Saturday afternoon at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
It was LA’s sixth MLS Cup victory in the franchise’s history.
Joseph Paintsil and Dejan Joveljic scored a goal apiece for the Galaxy. LA had six shots on net, while New York had five.
For the first time in MLS Cup history, five different players born in New York and New Jersey started in a MLS Cup final for a single club (Daniel Edelman, John Tolkin, Peter Stroud, Sean Nealis, Dylan Nealis)
