The Lexington Legends have signed Staten Islander Jerry Huntzinger, a pitcher and catcher who played in the Pioneer League with the Glacier Range Riders last year, for the upcoming 2025 independent Atlantic League, the team announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Additionally, relief pitcher Jett Lodes, 23, returns to the Lexington fold after posting a 1-2 record with a 4.55 ERA in 27.2 innings of work in 28 games in his rookie season with the Legends in 2024.
Plus, Lodes, with Oklahoma University, made 17 appearances on the bump, including one start. He held a 4.80 ERA and 2-1 record in 30.0 innings pitched with 31 strikeouts to 17 walks, allowing batters to hit just a .200 batting average against him.
Huntzinger, 26, batted .284 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 74 at-bats in 59 contests with the Glacier Ranger Riders in 2024. On the mound, he put up a 3-4 mark in 53.1 frames in 31 tilts.
He also played parts of three seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
Before turning professional, Huntzinger attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.) and Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He hit .270 across five seasons of college baseball.
Also, he went to Monsignor Farrell Catholic High School on Staten Island, where he captured two Catholic League titles.
