Chicago Dogs Welcome Back Staten Islander Gus Sosa for 2024 Season


Former Rutgers catcher and Staten Island native Gus Sosa has re-signed with the Chicago Dogs of the independent American Association, today the league announced via X, formerly known as Twitter.

Sosa, a 22-year-old Brooklyn-born righty, hit .264 with two home runs, 22 RBI and five triples in 163 at-bats in 43 games with the Dogs last season.

He also spent time with the Cleburne Railroaders and Staten Island FerryHawks in 2024.

Sosa spent the summer of 2022 with the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League, batting .339 with three longballs and 12 RBI in 56 at-bats in 28 contests.

The Philadelphia Phillies picked Sosa in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft out of South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Ariz.

He also attended Tottenville High School in Staten Island, N.Y.
