The Long Island Ducks have signed former Major League Baseball (MLB) Infielder Mark Mathias for the upcoming 2025 independent Atlantic League season, the team announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.

An eight-year veteran in professional baseball who has plays multiple positions, Ducks Manager Lew Ford is thrilled to pencil in Mathis onto the lineup card every day.
“Mark brings a tremendous amount of versatility to our team, having played every infield and outfield position,” Ford said on LIDucks.com. “We are excited to add his experience and leadership to our clubhouse.”
Mathias, 30, suited up for three seasons of Major League Baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2023), San Francisco Giants (2023), Texas Rangers (2022) and Milwaukee Brewers (2020, 2022). He smacked six home runs and drove in 30 runs with a .246 batting average and .708 OPS in 179 at-bats in 73 MLB games.
The Santa Clara, California, native spent the first five years of his pro baseball career in the Cleveland Indians organization, reaching as high as Triple-A with the Columbus Clippers in 2019.
MiLB.com named Mathias an Organizational All-Star in both 2016 and 2018, while also earning a Carolina League Post-Season All-Star nod in 2016 with High-A Lynchburg.
