Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! But the Cougars went on 8-0 run early into the second quarter, while the Tigers never even came close to a threat after that, as Chatham won, 17-6, going away Monday at Hass Field at Chatham Middle School.
“I’m just excited to keep going,” Helen McCutcheon-Oliver said. “We’re the number one seed, and we love to keep playing until we host out. Hopefully, we can win our section and get to the group. Today was definitely a game where we had to showcase the good early on. And obliviously, every team that we continue to see will be more competitive than the one before it.”
While the Tigers had some high spots of play during the tilt, McCutcheon Oliver said that the Cougars’ winning circle action ultimately led to ball control on both sides of the field.
“So, they had some beautiful plays and some really, really nice shots from Princeton,” she explained. “But we dominated on the draw, and we were able to really figure out their defense, and our offense was able to finish.”
After pulling ahead 8-1, the Hun School got one back, trailing 8-2 with 10:33 to go in the second period.
However, the Cougars caught fire again, unleashing a 9–0 outburst that pushed their advantage to an unprecedent 17–2 lead with 8:01 remaining in the contest.
The Tigers closed out the game by scoring four unanswered goals of their own to finish respectably.
The Cougars had four players who scored three goals: junior Simone Claps, and seniors Peyton Furst, Annie Irish and Nicolette Grossman. Senior Leah Tapper led Chatham with four assists and four points. Senior Lucy Pyper contributed two markers in the victory.
Sophomore goalie Abigail Alden made seven saves to bring her high school career total to 103.
Chatham faces No. 4 Red Bank Regional in the sectional semi-finals Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at home.
