Chatham High School (N.J.) football head coach Evan Picariello said that the coaching staff wanted to get junior Milo Semioli the ball more often in its game against Morristown.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Well, the Cougars (2-1) were successful at doing that, as Semioli scored three touchdowns in their 35-6 win over the Colonials (0-3) Thursday night on the road.
“We’ve been saying that we got to get Milo going a little bit more offensively,” Picariello quipped. “We kept saying on the headphones (during the game), ‘I guess we got the job done tonight with that.” Milo is a special player. He’s 6-2, 200. Runs well, he’s physical. He’s like a Swiss army knife. There are so many things he does very well.”‘
Chatham scored early, as junior quarterback Ryan Hogan connected with Semiloi to make it 7-0 in the first quarter.
Next, the Cougars found the end zone again on a rushing touchdown to push the score to 14-0 with 3:26 left in the first period.
Semioli came up big again as he caught another Hogan touchdown pass to swell the advantage to 21-0 with 7:49 to go in the second period.
Semioli completed the trifecta with a 13-yard TD reception from Hogan to run the game to 28-0 with less than three minutes remaining in the first half. At that point, Semioli had five catches for 98 yards and three scores.
“We just had to find open guys and get a few receptions, and it open up our offense for us,” Semioli said. “I was happy with my performance.”
Getting into the scoring action, senior running back Adian Tornberg hit paydirt on a 13-yard touchdown rush, his first of his high school football career, to widen Chatham’s margin to 35 points with 4:57 left in the third quarter.
Morristown finally broke the shutout with its first touchdown of the contest to make it 35-6 with 4:36 left in the game.
The rest of the game was academic for Chatham, who played a complete team effort type of affair.
Picariello said he is hard on his boys, but it comes from a place of love, and it is just to make them better football players and even better overall humans. That philosophy translated to a well-played game Thursday night.
“It’s my job to hold our guys to a high standard,” Picariello said. “I just told them we got to worry about us. I just want to see them go out and be able to execute for four quarters. Obviously, we did what we needed to do tonight.”
The Cougars travel to Mount Olive for a Friday night football game at 7:00 p.m.
