Vinny Siena, a Connecticut native who manned second baseman for the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2015, has inked a contract with the Independent New Britain Bees of the Atlantic League for the 2018 campaign, the club announced today. Â
Last year, Siena, 24, split time between Single-A Advanced St. Lucie and Single-A Mid-Level Columbia of the New York Mets organization, appearing in 69 combined games, hitting a home run and driving in 22 runs in 269 at-bats in 69 tilts.
The Mets selected Sienna in the 14th round of the 2015 MLB amateur draft out of the University of Connecticut (UConn). New York shipped the then-21-year-old to Brooklyn, where he started his professional career, batting .273 with 19 RBI with six doubles, a triple, 24 walks and 32 runs scored in 253 at-bats in 68 games that same year. Â
Sienna spent three campaigns in the Mets’ minor league system. The five-foot-ten, 197-pounder owns a career minor league average of .243 with a homer and 70 RBI to go along with 41 two-baggers and eight triples in 872 at-bats in 252 contests.
