Peter Alonso Pressing to be New York Mets’ Future First Baseman.

If Binghamton Rumble Ponies first baseman Peter Alonso continues his torrid hitting pace, he could be Citi Field-bound sooner than we think.

Alonso, 23, is currently leading the Rumble Ponies in five different offensive categories: .330 average, 14 homers, 44 RBI, .458 OBP and 1.068 OPS in 183 at-bats in 54 games.

The only weakness in the ex-Brooklyn Cyclone’s game is his strike out—to—walk ration, as Alonso has whiffed 43 times as opposed to drawing 38 free passes. But even that isn’t that alarming, as he’s cut down the strike outs over the course of his pro career.

Last season, the Tampa, Florida, native—who’s ranked No. 4 on the Mets’ MLB Pipeline Prospect list—struck out 71 times to reaching base on 27 occasions via the walk.  

In addition, Alonso, the Mets 2016 second round MLB draft pick, has broken his hand twice in the minors and injured himself in college but has avoided injury for over a year.
