Pitcher Joe Cavallaro Continues Path Toward Prospect Notoriety with Mets

The New York Mets have a few emerging pitching prospects in their system, including David Peterson (Single-A Florida), Justin Dunn (Double-A Binghamton), and Anthony Kay (Mid-level Single-A Columbia)—all of whom are first round draft picks of New York. Now, you can add Fireflies’ Joe Cavallaro to the Mets’ budding list of hurlers.

Cavallaro (7-1) fired six scoreless frames in the Fireflies’ 4-0 win over the Lexington Legends (35-30) Wednesday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. 

The six-foot-four, 190-pound righty scattered six hits and struck out seven batters in the victory, which improved Columbia to a 32-31 mark on the South Atlantic League campaign. Cavallaro’s ERA sits at a minuscule 2.06 ERA after 65.2 innings in 11 games, 10 of which are starts.

Cavallaro, 22, has posted an impressive 10-2 record with a mere 2.15 ERA through 100.1 minor league career innings in 22 contests.
