With the New York-Penn League (NYPL) season winding down, the Brooklyn Cyclones (36-30) needed the win. The Cyclones, the short-season Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, used big games by infielder Chase Chambers and outfielderĀ Anthony Dirocie to demolitionĀ the Connecticut Tigers, 10-3, Saturday night at MCU Park.Ā
The Brooklyn win, coupled with the Staten Island Yankees loss, vaults the Cyclones to first place in the wild card with nine tilts remaining in the campaign.Ā
Chambers went 3-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and reached base a total of five times, while Dirocie stroked 3-5 with a double and two ribeyes of his own.Ā
Shortstop Manny RodriguezĀ went 2-5, including a two-RBI double, which capped aĀ four-run third inning for Brooklyn, pushing the lead to 7-0.Ā
Second baseman Carlos Cortes joined in the festivitiesĀ with aĀ 2-4 performance with a walk and two runs scored.Ā
Starting pitcher Kyle Wilson (4-3) went five innings, allowing six hits and three runs against the Tigers (26-37) for the victory.Ā
