Billy Oxford has been a lifesaver on Coney Island, coming out of the Brooklyn Cyclones’ bullpen this season, and delivering sharp effectiveness.
The six-foot-one, 215-pound righty has recorded an impressive 6-1 record with 1.59 ERA in 34.0 innings pitched in 21 games thus far.
Prior to Brooklyn (Mets’ New York-Penn League short-season Single-A affiliate), Oxford, 22, pitched in two games for the St. Lucie Mets of the Advanced-A Florida State League (FSL), not allowing a run in 3.1 frames on the hill earlier in the year.
Last campaign, the Peoria, Arizona-born Oxford posted a respectable 2-1 mark with a 3.75 ERA in 24.0 innings of relief work for the rookie-level Kingsport Mets.
In college, Oxford, the New York Mets’ 27th round selection in the 2017 MLB amateur draft, pitched at Saint Mary’s College and Azusa Pacific University.
