The New York Mets have added some minor league depth today, signing former Met outfielder Juan Lagares and ex-Washington Nationals second baseman Brain Dozier, according to Anthony DiComo on Twitter, citing sources.

If he does get called up during the year, it will probably be as a late-inning defensive replacement and some pinch runner duties unless injuries totally decimate the Mets’ outfield. Therefore, Lagares will likely see more playing time in centerfield.
The 6-foot-two, 219-pound ex-Brooklyn Cyclone, New York’s short-season Single-A affiliate, won the Golden Glove Award in 2014.
Dozier, who helped the Nationals capture a World Series title in 2019, was released by the San Diego Padres earlier in July.
Dozier slashed .238/.340/.430 with 20 long balls and 50 RBI last season.
Dozier has played eight campaigns in MLB with the Minnesota Twins (2012-18), Los Angeles Dodgers, (2018) and Nationals, and has amassed a .245 career average with 192 homers and 562 RBI.
In corresponding moves, Mets released Melky Cabrera and Gordon Beckham.
