Where are the best soccer cities in the United States in 2023 located, you may ask?
With the U.S. Open Cup final coming up at the end of September and the U.S. Women’s National Team having ended their run with the initial round of 16 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2023’s Best Cities for Soccer Fans, as well as expert commentary.
To find the best places for loving on the world’s favorite sport, WalletHub compared nearly 300 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional soccer team across five divisions comprising 52 key metrics. The data set ranges from minimum season-ticket price for a game to stadium accessibility to number of championship wins.
Coming in at top of the list is Los Angeles, Calif., followed by Seattle, Wash., and Portland, Ore. Orlando, Fla., and Kansas City, Mo., round out the top five.
New York City–with two Major League Soccer (MLS) teams, the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC — claimed the ninth spot.
- For MLS, Philadelphia Union’s performance level, 52.64 percent, is 2.5 times better than that of FC Cincinnati and Houston Dynamo, at 21.48 percent.
- For National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), OL Reign’s performance level, 48.61 percent, is 2.2 times better than that of the Racing Louisville FC, at 21.78 percent.
- For the United Soccer League (USL), Tampa Bay Rowdies’ performance level, 64.40 percent, is 4.4 times better than that of Loudoun United FC, at 14.57 percent.
- Houston has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for an MLS game, $240, which is 2.7 times less expensive than in Columbus, Ohio, the city with the highest at $646.
- Orlando, Florida, has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for an NWSL game, $140, which is 1.7 times less expensive than in Houston, the city with the highest at $240.
- Edinburg, Texas, has the lowest minimum season-ticket price for a USL game, $92, which is 3.7 times less expensive than in Oakland, California, the city with the highest at $340.
