Tong Holds Hudson Valley at Bay, While Cyclones Batters Crack 3 Homers in Win

Jonah Tong (1-0) continues to prove he is a solid pitching prospect, as the righty fired 6.2 innings of one-run ball, and the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones (21-19) smashed three longballs in their 7-1 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades (New York Yankees) Tuesday night at home.

Tong, the Mets’ 20th-ranked player on MLB Pipeline, walked one while striking out eight Renegade (19-18) hitters, including major league-rehabbing third baseman D.J. LeMahieu. Righty reliever Dakota Hawkins came in and held Hudson Valley scoreless, while surrendered just one knock in 2.1 frames of work.

Second baseman Wilfredo Lara, right fielder Jefrey De Los Santos and first baseman Nick Lorusso all went deep for the Cyclones. Catcher Suero went 2-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

3 Cyclones go yard in 7-1 win over Renegades.
