Detroit Tigers Ink Long Island Ducks Closer, Matt Seelinger, for Double-A Erie Seawolves


The Detroit Tigers today have signed ex-Long Island Ducks’ (Atlantic League of Professional Baseball) closer Matt Seelinger and will be shipping him to Double-A Erie Seawolves of the Eastern League, per Ducks president Michael Pfaff announced on X.

Seelinger, a Westbury native and Levittown, Long Island, New York, resident, posted a 0.43 ERA with 11 saves in 20.2 innings of work before the Tigers organization inked him.

Seelinger, 28, spent last season with the Reading Fightin Phils (AA, Phillies), putting up a 1-1 record with a 3.71 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 21 appearances.

In 190 career minor league contests (two starts) with the Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays and San Francisco Giants minor league systems, the righty has complied a 12-12 record with a 3.57 ERA along with 18 saves and 351 strikeouts to 125 walks over 257.1 frames. He reached Triple-A with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in 2022.
