Derrick Bueno: CACC All-Conference Forward and NABC Academic Honors Recipient


Draining buckets and pulling down rebounds are not the only notable things Derrick Bueno did well on at the Division II Caldwell University Cougars (N.J.) Men’s basketball team.

The rising senior forward has earned recognition on the 2023-24 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, representing achievement in the classroom by men’s college basketball players, today the organization announced.

Bueno, a business administration major with an impressive 3.27 GPA, also earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Academic Honor Roll status this spring as a junior. In addition to that, he was an Academic All-American, the first one Caldwell University has had in five years.

The Palisades Park, N.J., native was equally successful on the hardwood, as the CACC picked him to its All-Conference Third Team after posting career-best marks of 15.0 points (11th CACC), 7.6 rebounds (eighth) and assists (2.0) while placing third in the league in points per 40 minutes (25.7) and fifth in rebounds per 40 minutes (13.0).

The Roselle Catholic High School (N.J.) graduate enters his senior season nearing the 1,000-point mark with 910 career points, and also boasts 504 career rebounds.

The Cougars posted a 14-14 overall record and went 9-7 in CACC action in the 2023-24 campaign.
