Kamryn Comstock Leads SUNY Poly Wildcats to Comeback Win Against Clarkson

Behind 24 points and eight rebounds from Dolgeville, N.Y., native Kamryn Comstock, the Division III SUNY Poly Wildcats Men’s basketball team used a strong second half to come from behind and overtake Clarkson University in the end, 83-77, today on the road.

Knowing its a challenge to win away from its home arena in college hoops, SUNY Poly head coach Rob Schoener praised his team for battling back and earning the victory.

“It’s tough to win on the road in college basketball,” Schoener said on wildcats.sunypoly.edu. “We didn’t have the focus or effort in the first half, but credit to our guys — they battled on every possession in the second half. It’s a great way to head into the Thanksgiving break.”

The Golden Knights (3-3) led at halftime by a 10-point advantage at 48-40.

Clarkson tacked on to its lead, extending its margin to 13 points early in the second half. But the Wildcats nailed back-to-back three pointers from the Bronx’s Anthony Rose, followed by a fast-break layup from LaMarqus Merchant Jr., sliced the deficit to seven points.

SUNY Poly (2-2) started to play a stinger defense, and their shots began to drop more consistently, yielding a lead with under three minutes left in the tilt.

During crunch time, the Wildcats sank vital free throws down the stretch to secure the victory over the Golden Knights.

SUNY Poly returns to action on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 5:30 p.m., as they travel to St. Lawrence.
