The Trois- Rivières Aigles of the independent Canadian-American League inked former New York Yankee farmhand, Staten Island hurler Philip Walby to a contract for the upcoming 2018 season, the team announced on Sunday.
Walby, 25, spent 2017 with the Lansing Lugnuts (Advanced A) and Dunedin Blue Jays (mid-level A), both with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He put up a combined 2-2 record with 5.58 ERA in 59.2 innings of work in 41 contests. Â
After the Yankees selected Walby in the 12th round of the 2013 MLB amateur draft, they shipped the right-hander to Staten Island to start his professional baseball career.
The San Diego State University product posted solid numbers with the Baby Bombers, going 3-1 with a 2.75 ERA with 37 whiffs in 36 frames—more than a strikeout per inning—in 14 games, four of which were starts, in ‘13.
For his minor league career, the six-foot-two, 190-pound Walby owns a 12-9 mark with 4.15 ERA with 230 punch outs in 234.1 innings in 164 affairs.
Aigles, which is French for Eagles, is a Canadian professional baseball team based in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. They play their home games at Stade Fernand-Bédard.
