The Sussex County Miners are returning infielder Mahki Backstrom, a 2025 Frontier League All-Star, to the fold for the 2026 Frontier League campaign, today the team announced via X.

In 2024, Backstrom saw playing time between the High-A Asheville Tourists, the minor-league affiliate of the Houston Astros, and the Pioneer League’s Great Falls Voyagers. While he struggled at Asheville, he shined with the Voagers, where the 24-year-old smacked .350 with 12 longballs and 41 RBI in only 45 contests.
The Atlanta Braves picked Backstrom in the 18th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, Calif.
