It was a day that was not any different from any other one. My girlfriend Maggie picked me up from work and we drove around before going home.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! But first, we wound up turning into the parking lot of St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, New Jersey. I did not want to go in and look at dogs that we would were not going to take home that day. It made me sad. But I could not resist a chance at looking at the faces of those sweet, lovable animals. It really makes my heart sing.
But Maggie already had a plan, which was unbeknownst to me at the time. She was looking for a dog she had seen on St. Hubert’s website. But the dog was not in her kennel, however. She was resting up front behind the front desk, with all the staff loving on her big time.
I took one look into her deep, brown eyes, and I started to fall in love right there.
Furthermore, her back story was heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. The staff told us that she was pregnant when she came in and had to her have her babies removed in order to spay her. I am not sure if they could have done it after giving birth.
They informed us that she would take her stuff animals to her doggie bed as if they were her little children, possibly in an attempt to bond with what she had the opportunity to experience. Who knows?
That was it. We felt she needed us and a loving home in order to love and be loved while thriving to the fullest. She also had tested positive for heartworm, so they said she would receive treatments at the facility. I thought she was going to stay at St. Hubert’s until she was finished with the heartworm medicine. But, to my pleasant surprise, she was coming with us right then and there, on Wednesday, May 13th.
I felt sad and excited simultaneously because we had lost our last beautiful dog, Maya, at just six and half years old over a year ago after showing various vague symptoms for just a few days. It was so unexpected, to say the least.
Getting a new pup stirred up all these past feelings of profound heartache. But we were giving a new dog an opportunity at a happy life, while filling our lives with joy and jubilation. So, I took solace in that.
Therefore, it was all worthwhile to welcome Olive Martini–that is her new name, not Bernice, a name fit for a golden girl–into our world.
Olive is adorable, sweet, well-behaved, and loves all people and dogs so far, fortunately for us.
We are all lucky to have each other now. Welcome to Chatham, New Jersey, you little money. We love you so much, Olive.
Note: Please adopt, do not shop. Consider getting a wonderful dog, cat, or any other animal from St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, I promise you that you will not regret it at all. Or donate at this link.
